five date surprise

My whole plan was to get beyond my shyness and out of the house and go on thirty dates with people completely outside of my circle. I was going to learn so much about the world, bounce up against other personalities, and see how the other half lives. I was even going to write a play and pitched it to a collaborator.

What I didn’t count on was actually meeting someone.

What I didn’t count on was being well met.

Date five, In walks one of the coolest cats on the planet and we’re crazy about each other.

WHAT?! By the end of our first evening, he says, “I don’t really see the point of dating other people, I just want to get to know you.” And I agree.

No. This doesn’t happen to me. This whole “we both like each other immensely at the same time” business. This whole instant connection and ease. I could not have had the courage to pick this guy out of a catalogue if such a thing existed. I would have never been so audacious as to tick off so many things on the wish list of compatibilities.

I wake up in the morning and feel as though I’ve had a dream and fear creeps in and I expect him to write and say, “Um…sorry, you’re not for me.”

Instead he walks through my door (to fix it, incidentally) and he says, “Oh good! You’re real.” And kisses me like there might not be a tomorrow.

I am absolutely astonished. So much so, I have nothing more to say.
